Pinterest’s launches new ‘Pin It’ button for faster bookmarking

Pinterest launched a new “Pin It” button on Thursday that makes it faster for users to bookmark content across the Internet.

According to the company, the new and improved button, which Pinterest users can install as an extension for web browsers including Safari, Chrome and Firefox, trims the number of clicks needed to save web content — articles, photos, and so on — from six clicks to three.

“The Pin It button is how you save anything you want for later,” Pinterest Product Manager Cesar Isern wrote in a post. “Whenever you spot something you want to try some day, you just Pin It, and it’s saved.” Read more…

In the tech world, the billion-dollar startups never grow up

Niklas Östberg’s startup has raised so many rounds of funding that he has almost lost track.

“I think officially we’re probably on Series, oh, did we do H maybe?” says Östberg, cofounder and CEO of Delivery Hero, an online food-ordering service. Series H turns out to be the right answer. Delivery Hero periodically receives what Östberg calls “small” investments of $5 million to $20 million from individual investors. It gets hard to remember which round an investor joined.

Delivery Hero, four years old, has already raised more than $1 billion in financing. “I don’t think that the rush for an IPO is there any more,” Ostberg says. “I think we could probably raise another billion without a problem.” Read more…

Pinterest raises $367 million in funding at $11 billion valuation

Pinterest is the latest tech company to secure an 11-figure valuation.

The social bookmarking service has raised $367 million in funding with plans to raise as much as another $211 million more for a grand total of up to $578 million, according to a regulatory filing on Monday

“Pinterest will use the additional capital for corporate purposes, including to fuel international expansion,” a rep for Pinterest said in a statement provided to Mashable. “In 2014, international users grew more than 135%. Today, they are more than 40% of all users, up from just 28% in 2013.” Read more…

Pinterest to hit 50 million active users in US next year, new data says

Pinterest may need to pin some more users.

The visual bookmarking service is projected to have just more than 47 million monthly active users in the U.S. this year, and top 50 million next year, according to a new estimate from researcher eMarketer.

That puts Pinterest far behind Facebook, which reported having 128 million daily active users in the U.S. back in 2013. It’s also well behind Twitter, which claimed 63 million monthly active users in the fourth quarter of 2014.

“[Pinterest’s] growth may be more limited than other services, simply because what you do on Pinterest — find and pin things that you like — isn’t necessarily something that large numbers of people may want to do,” Debra Aho Williamson, an eMarketer analyst and author of the report, wrote in a statement.
